The spring is approaching. Even in the gloomy Amsterdam, this March is an amazingly sunny although still chilly time of a year. With sun comes sun protection. This post features the very popular Estee Lauder Daywear SPF50. Last summer, every blogger that I follows (e.g. Ruth Crilly, Lily Pebbles) seems to be recommending this sunscreen. Does it live up to the hype? Would it be a suitable SPF for you in the coming months?

What is it?
A moisturizer with broad spectrum sunscreen SPF 50.
Who is it for?
This sunscreen is for people with dry to normal skin. If you have combination to oily skin, I recommend you to stay away from this sunscreen.
What I like about it?
This is a decent moisturizer with high SPF. The sunscreen has both UVA and UVB protection such as Avobenzone 3%, Homosalate 5%, Octisalate 5%, Octocrylene 2.7%, Oxybenzone 3%. According to the ingredient list, this is an chemical sunscreen. So it does not leave a white sheen on your skin
When applied, the product has a scent of cucumber, which is very pleasant. If I do not have combination skin, I think I will absolutely enjoy it.
What I don’t like about it?
This sunscreen is just not suitable for my skin type. As you can see from the picture, it does leave a sheen on my skin, although not a white sheen.I have combination (but not oily) skin and it almost always leave my skin shiny and oily by 11.30 a.m, even in WINTER!!!

Does the product live up to its claim?
I seriously do not think this is a product that is suitable for all skin types. Once applied, it leaves a sheen on my skin and tends to leave oily and shiny very early during the day. On the other hand, if you have dry to normal skin, this could be a decent sunscreen for you.
The claim is indeed over the top. I am never a believer in in vitro testing. In vitro testing means tesing in a test tube. Therefore you can not observe the overall effects a product in the in vitro testing, unlike in vivo testing (testing on a living subject).
Causes of Allergy or Concern?
This product is free from mineral oil and paraben. It does contain fragrance, but the fragrance lists very low on the ingredient lists. I personally do not find the cucumber scent off-putting, but I know someone that does not like this product because of the scent.
Price
40 euros for 30ml. Quite pricey, I have to say. We actually need to use about 30ml sunscreen for our face and neck every month. Both the other SPF products that i review in the blog are in the range of middle 10-20 euros.

Ester Lauder is available almost everywhere. So if you want to give this sunscreen a try, go to a counter and try it on yourself.
Would I buy it again?
Definitely, No. This is a good product, just not a good product for me.
